Rep. Craig Williams of Delaware and Chester has been appointed as the Republican chairman of the House Government Oversight Committee for the 2025-2026 session. The appointment was made by House Republican Leader Jesse Topper from Bedford and Fulton. The committee is tasked with conducting hearings across the Commonwealth to investigate referred matters.

Williams will lead fellow Republican members, including Representatives Tim Bonner, Dallas Kephart, and Grimm Krupa, in these investigations. Williams expressed his commitment to the role, stating, “Having done similar work on the executive side at the highest levels of our federal government, I know that House Government Oversight is a crucial function in integrity and also checks and balances of government power. As always, I am honored to serve.”

Williams’ background includes serving as a federal prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice and Deputy Legal Counsel to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He also commanded all prosecutors in the Marine Corps Reserve during his final tour as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Leader Topper praised Williams’ capabilities: “I hand-picked Chairman Williams for this position. In his four years in the House chamber, I have seen him lean on his wealth of experience to drive to reasoned outcomes. He solves problems. He does the right thing for the right reasons. That is who we need leading oversight investigations.”

The House Government Oversight Committee has previously conducted several significant investigations. In 2019, it looked into compliance with lobbying disclosure laws, recommending changes to disclosures. In 2020, it investigated firearm procurement by the Office of the State Inspector General and examined decisions related to nursing home patients during the pandemic.

In addition to his new role as chairman, Williams will serve on several other committees: Consumer Protection Technology and Utilities, Energy, Gaming Oversight, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness.
