Garnet Valley High School issued the following announcement on Oct. 27.

Dear School Community,

We are aware of a great deal of activity on social media regarding rumored abductions in our area. As a result, our Director of Safety and Security communicated with the Pennsylvania State Police Department around 11:30AM today and learned that on Wednesday October 20, 2021 there was a reported attempted abduction at the Sunoco Station located at the intersection of Routes 202 and 1 in Chadds Ford. The victim contacted the Pennsylvania State Police and there is an ongoing investigation.

As for the similar attempts being discussed on social media that occurred at the Wegmans and Target Stores in Concord Township, the police have not received any reports of incidents occurring at either of these locations.  They, however, are actively following up to ensure there were no events that went unreported.

I hope this information reduces the concern that some members of our community have expressed over social media.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marc Bertrando, Superintendent
