Fair Acres Geriatric Center was recognized as Delaware County’s largest nursing home during the first quarter of 2026, based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The facility had 778 beds available in the quarter, surpassing the county average by 635 beds. An average of 439.8 residents were served each day during this time.

The CMS awarded Fair Acres Geriatric Center a perfect overall rating of 5 out of 5, compared with a statewide nursing home average of 3 in Pennsylvania.

Pine View Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center ranked second in size in Delaware County during the quarter with 298 beds, while St. Francis Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare was third with 273 beds available.

In the same period, Fair Acres Geriatric Center reported no fines or penalties.

There was only a single public nursing home in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, as of the first quarter of 2026.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the nation’s older population continues to grow, while younger age groups decline. Americans age 65 and over increased by 13% from 2020 to 2024, as the number of those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the past century, the country’s older population has expanded significantly, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study finds that nearly half of this age group, about 28 million people, might need long-term support and services, and projects that more than a third could require nursing home care in the future.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
