Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on her official social media account addressing issues ranging from bipartisanship to humanitarian crises and healthcare policy.

On July 25, 2025, Scanlon highlighted a moment of bipartisan camaraderie within the House Rules Committee, posting: “Always looking for moments of bipartisanship, earlier this week I got my Rules Committee colleague @RepMGriffith to agree: ‘Go Birds!’ “

The following day, July 26, she addressed the humanitarian situation in Gaza. In her post, Scanlon stated: “The images of starving children in Gaza are heart-wrenching. It is unconscionable that children and families are being starved to death while humanitarian aid is blocked. The United States and Israel must do everything in their power to allow aid to enter and be delivered to”

On July 27, Scanlon turned her attention to domestic policy concerns regarding health insurance premiums and legislative efforts to address them. She wrote: “Health insurance premiums are going to skyrocket next year because of the OBBB, with 4 million people likely to lose their healthcare per CBO. It doesn’t have to be this way. We need to pass the Health Care Affordability Act to protect your healthcare.”

Scanlon has served as a member of Congress since 2018 after replacing Pat Meehan. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore. Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree from Colgate University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania.
