Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on October 3, 2025, expressing concern about rising healthcare costs and economic challenges under the Trump administration.
In her first tweet at 14:33 UTC, Scanlon stated: “Americans can’t afford healthcare or groceries NOW, and the job market continues to slow under Trump but according to the Trump administration ‘EVERYTHING IS FINE!'”
Later that day at 15:13 UTC, she highlighted calls from constituents about increasing healthcare expenses. She wrote: “Constituents are calling my office about rising healthcare costs. I spoke with a woman in her 60s who received a notice that her healthcare costs will increase from $1,000 to $1,800 a month. She needs the ACA tax credits, which @HouseGOP is allowing to expire. I’m fighting to”
At 17:02 UTC on the same day, Scanlon commented on broader trends by posting: “We see the momentum too – and it’s going in the wrong direction.”
Scanlon has represented Pennsylvania’s 5th District since replacing Pat Meehan in 2018. Born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently residing in Swarthmore, she holds degrees from Colgate University (BA) and the University of Pennsylvania (JD).
