Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 5th district since 2018, shared a series of tweets addressing various topics. Born in Watertown, New York, and currently residing in Swarthmore, Scanlon graduated from Colgate University and earned a JD from the University of Pennsylvania.
On June 5, 2025, Scanlon tweeted about healthcare with a metaphorical reference to breakups: “Breakups are hard… this one might save you your healthcare.”
The following day, June 6, she expressed surprise at a situation involving fellow representative Madeleine Dean while extending birthday wishes: “BANANAS that you have to explain this, @RepDean. (Also — happy birthday, friend! Here’s to another year of bringing the fight to Congress.)”
Later on June 6, Scanlon emphasized the importance of due process rights: “Due Process is about the right to defend yourself. If you take that away from one person, you take it away from all of us.”
Mary Gay Scanlon replaced Pat Meehan in Congress in 2018 and has since been active in legislative matters concerning her district.
