Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of posts on her official social media account addressing religious observance, economic concerns, and disability rights.

On April 1, 2026, Scanlon extended holiday wishes to her constituents: “On the first day of Passover, I hope everyone gathering with their loved ones has a joyful and peaceful Seder.”

Later that evening, following a presidential address, she commented on the state of financial markets and federal leadership. On April 2, 2026, she wrote: “Clearly the President’s speech tonight did not reassure the markets. No plan, no strategy for cleaning up the mess he created.”

The next day, Scanlon addressed legislative efforts related to disability access laws. On April 2, 2026, she stated: “For decades, the ADA has required businesses to reduce physical barriers to access for people with disabilities – including veterans and seniors. @HouseGOP is pushing a bill that would add bureaucratic barriers to access – shifting the burden of enforcement to vulnerable”

Scanlon has served in Congress since 2018 after replacing Pat Meehan as representative for Pennsylvania’s 5th district. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore at age 63. Her educational background includes a BA from Colgate University (1980) and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania (1984).
