Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared updates on local initiatives and national legislative developments through her official Twitter account.
On July 20, 2025, Scanlon announced new federal support for food assistance programs in Delaware County. She wrote, “My office secured $2 million in funding for the Share Food program’s new warehouse in Delco. The warehouse will become operational later this year and help to offset some of the cuts to food assistance programs by the Trump administration.”
Later that day, she commented on a community event marking a significant cultural celebration. On July 20, 2025, she posted, “I was grateful to celebrate our shared history, dreams, and language on Liberian Independence Day in Upper Darby.”
The following day, July 21, 2025, Scanlon criticized recent legislative activity related to cryptocurrency regulation. She stated, “The Grift Never Stops. Last Week: House Republicans pass industry written crypto bills. Today:”
Scanlon has served as a member of Congress since 2018 after replacing Pat Meehan and currently resides in Swarthmore. Born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and now aged 63, she holds degrees from Colgate University (BA) and the University of Pennsylvania (JD).
