Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently addressed several political issues through her social media posts.

On December 2, 2025, Scanlon highlighted concerns about the influence of wealthy donors in federal elections, stating: “We need to get rid of dark money in politics. ‘In 2000, the 100 richest Americans donated about .25% of the total cost of federal elections. By 2024, it was 7.5%.’”

Later that day, she criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson’s policy priorities by listing issues she claims are being neglected: “Other things on @SpeakerJohnson’s ‘not my issue’ list include: – a plan to save healthcare for millions of Americans – a plan to lower costs for American families – ending Trump’s destructive trade wars.”

On December 3, 2025, Scanlon responded briefly to an unspecified claim with: “Actually, they didn’t.”

Scanlon has served as a member of Congress since replacing Pat Meehan in 2018 and is known for her focus on campaign finance reform and healthcare policy. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore. Scanlon graduated from Colgate University with a BA in 1980 and earned her JD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984.
