Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on November 6, 2025, addressing topics ranging from congressional leadership to federal nutrition assistance and tariffs.
In her first post at 18:24 UTC, Scanlon expressed appreciation for House leadership, stating: “Thank you, Madame Speaker, for your service, courage, and leadership.”
Later that evening at 19:20 UTC, she commented on federal support for food assistance programs: “Couldn’t agree more! Tell the President to fund SNAP payments!”
At 21:17 UTC on the same day, Scanlon questioned tariff policies and their financial impact on Americans with the message: “As in pay back trillions to AMERICANS that they paid because of your tariffs???”
Scanlon has served as the representative for Pennsylvania’s 5th District since 2018 after succeeding Pat Meehan. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore. Scanlon holds a BA from Colgate University and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania.
