Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on August 25, 2025, criticizing recent policy decisions by the Trump Administration and congressional Republicans.

In her first post at 15:27 UTC, Scanlon stated, “The Trump Administration is abandoning Americans by slashing our disaster response programs. Natural Disasters are becoming more frequent with greater intensity. Gutting these programs will devastate communities across our country.”

Later that day at 16:37 UTC, she wrote, “Young Americans are being left behind because DC Republicans are putting the interests of Billionaires and Big Business ahead of the American people.”

In a subsequent tweet at 17:43 UTC, Scanlon added, “Paid for by gutting Healthcare and SNAP Benefits for Millions of Americans and adding TRILLIONS to the deficit.”

Mary Gay Scanlon has served as a member of Congress since 2018 after replacing Pat Meehan as representative for Pennsylvania’s 5th district. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore. Scanlon holds a BA from Colgate University (1980) and earned her JD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984.
