Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on November 13, 2025, addressing recent legislative actions and economic issues.

In a post from November 13, Scanlon criticized House Republicans for passing the Senate’s funding bill: “.@HouseGOP passed the Senate’s funding bill that allows 8 Senators to collect millions in taxpayer dollars while doing nothing to save healthcare or end the affordability crisis for millions of Americans. It’s a disgrace, but I’ll keep fighting for a better future for all”.

Later that day, she questioned whether an unnamed individual had visited a grocery store and called for an end to tariffs: “Has she been to a grocery store? It sure doesn’t sound like it. End the blanket tariffs.”

In another tweet on the same date, Scanlon addressed attempts to withhold funding for SNAP benefits: “He tried to withhold funding for SNAP benefits. 16 million American children rely on SNAP for food.”

Scanlon has served as the representative for Pennsylvania’s 5th District since 2018 after succeeding Pat Meehan. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore at age 63. Her educational background includes a BA from Colgate University (1980) and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania (1984).
