Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on October 10, 2025, criticizing Republican health care policies and highlighting their impact on Pennsylvanians.
In her first tweet at 17:18 UTC, Scanlon wrote, “.@RepDwightEvans is right. How cynical and insincere for the Speaker to preach about the $50 billion band-aid for rural hospitals in the OBBB, when it was only included to buy a few GOP votes to cut almost a TRILLION in Medicaid dollars for Americans!”
A minute later, she added further context by stating, “CONTEXT: Republicans control the federal government.” This comment follows ongoing debates in Congress regarding health care funding and partisan divisions.
Later that day at 18:30 UTC, Scanlon addressed the potential consequences for her constituents: “422,000 Pennsylvanians will see their health insurance premiums SKYROCKET, because Republicans in Congress refuse to negotiate.”
Scanlon has represented Pennsylvania’s 5th District since 2018, after replacing Pat Meehan. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore. Scanlon graduated from Colgate University with a BA in 1980 and earned her JD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984.
