Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, has criticized Republican lawmakers for their recent actions regarding the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein.
On July 17, 2025, Scanlon posted on her social media account: “House Republicans have voted to block the release of the Epstein Files. They’re scrambling to defend their decision before having to vote on it again.”
Later that day, she added: “House & Senate RepublicansBlocking the Release of the Epstein Files” in a separate post.
In a third message posted on July 17, 2025, Scanlon wrote: “The Republicans calling the shots in this White House find democracy and the rule of law to be inconvenient barriers to their extremist agenda. So instead they want to rule this country through a combination of fear and fictitious national emergencies.”
Scanlon has represented Pennsylvania’s 5th District since 2018 after succeeding Pat Meehan. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore. Scanlon holds a BA from Colgate University (1980) and earned her JD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984.
