Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on October 3, 2025, to address concerns about healthcare access and insurance costs for Americans.
In a post published at 18:05 UTC, Scanlon stated, “The only thing Democrats are desperate for is for the American people to have Healthcare next month.”
Later that day at 18:44 UTC, she continued her remarks by emphasizing the urgency of affordable healthcare. She wrote, “Americans can’t afford to wait to see whether they can afford healthcare next month. Insurance price hikes will be UNBEARABLE for working class people. We are fighting for the millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet — not for billionaires to get even richer.”
Scanlon also criticized House Republicans in a tweet posted at 21:31 UTC: “.@HouseGOP refuses to come back to work after shutting down the government. They’re more concerned about preventing the Release of the Epstein Files than about protecting the Millions of Americans who are about to lose their healthcare.”
Mary Gay Scanlon has served as a member of Congress since replacing Pat Meehan in 2018 and currently resides in Swarthmore. Born in Watertown, New York in 1959, she is now 63 years old. Scanlon holds a BA from Colgate University (1980) and earned her JD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984.
