Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on December 3, 2025, to criticize Republican economic policies and the White House’s approach to affordability.

In a post made at 19:38 UTC, Scanlon wrote, “Don’t be fooled. Republicans have worked to help corporations and the ultra wealthy avoid paying their fair share for decades.”

Later that evening at 20:13 UTC, she questioned the economic impact of former President Donald Trump’s trade policies by stating, “Is anyone surprised that Trump’s trade wars and chaotic leadership have led to an economic downturn?”

At 20:50 UTC on the same day, Scanlon commented on federal efforts regarding affordability issues: “The White House’s Affordability Agenda is calling it a hoax. Americans have been waiting for a plan since January.”

Scanlon has served in Congress since 2018 after replacing Pat Meehan as representative of Pennsylvania’s 5th district. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore. Scanlon holds a BA from Colgate University (1980) and earned her JD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984.
