Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who has represented Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2018, recently posted a series of tweets criticizing current economic and administrative policies.
On July 15, 2025, Scanlon stated, “The Trump Tariffs are forcing grocery and energy prices to rise across the country. Coupled with the White House’s reckless fiscal policy, Americans are going to suffer even more when cuts to Healthcare and SNAP benefits go into effect.”
Later that day, she challenged an unspecified party’s voting record by asking, “Then why did you vote against releasing the files???” in a post timestamped at 21:34 UTC.
On July 16, Scanlon further criticized actions attributed to the Trump administration regarding food aid: “The Trump administration is about to spend $130K to DESTROY $800K worth of food that was intended to feed 1.5 Million MALNOURISHED CHILDREN. This is immoral and should be Exhibit A for waste and abuse.”
Scanlon has served in Congress since replacing Pat Meehan in 2018 and represents constituents from Pennsylvania’s 5th District. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore. Scanlon holds a BA from Colgate University (1980) and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania (1984).
