Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, criticized the Trump Administration’s environmental policies in a series of posts on August 1, 2025.

In one post, Scanlon wrote: “Americans didn’t sign up for shorelines to be wiped out. Americans didn’t sign up for air that could make you sick. Americans didn’t sign up for a government that puts fossil fuel industry profits over their families.” (August 1, 2025)

She continued her criticism by stating: “The Trump Administration is selling out the health of American families in order to bankroll the fossil fuel industry.” (August 1, 2025)

Scanlon also addressed concerns about greenhouse gas emissions: “The Trump Administration wants to allow companies to release more Greenhouse Gases. Sea levels will rise, animals will go extinct, and healthcare costs will skyrocket so oil and gas executives can cash in.” (August 1, 2025)

Mary Gay Scanlon has served as a member of Congress since 2018 after replacing Pat Meehan. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore. Scanlon graduated from Colgate University with a BA in 1980 and earned her JD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984.
