Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on September 3, 2025, addressing concerns about federal policy and transparency.

In her first post at 14:35 UTC, Scanlon criticized efforts by the White House to rebrand legislation related to healthcare and tax policy. She wrote, “White House is desperately trying to rebrand the #OBBBA because Working Families think the GOP’s plan to sacrifice their Healthcare and SNAP Benefits to give Billionaires a Tax Cut is a bad idea.”

Later that day at 17:51 UTC, she raised alarms about perceived threats to constitutional rights. According to Scanlon, “There is an all-out assault on the First Amendment in the United States — and it’s being spearheaded by the White House (the executive branch of our own country).”

At 19:11 UTC, Scanlon questioned government transparency regarding high-profile documents. She asked, “Is this why he won’t release the Epstein Files?”

Scanlon has served as a member of Congress since 2018 after replacing Pat Meehan. Born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently residing in Swarthmore, she holds degrees from Colgate University and the University of Pennsylvania.
