Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, representing Pennsylvania’s 5th district since 2018, has expressed her views on various issues through a series of tweets. Scanlon, who succeeded Pat Meehan and holds degrees from Colgate University and the University of Pennsylvania, is known for her outspoken stance on social and economic policies.

On June 4, 2025, Scanlon addressed fiscal policy by referencing a translation provided by Stephen M. She stated: “Welfare Reform” = Cutting Medicaid and SNAP “Zero Deficit Impact” = Deficit $3.8 Trillion “2017 Tax Cuts” = Billionaire Tax Cuts.

Later that day, she criticized actions related to addiction recovery services. She tweeted: “You can’t earnestly say you want to help people struggling with addiction but be silent when DOGE and this White House have fired nearly half the staff at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and defunded the agencies which would provide recovery and”.

On June 5, 2025, Scanlon commented on healthcare access concerning pregnancy complications. She asserted: “Women die from pregnancy complications when hospitals refuse to provide emergency abortion care. This administration doesn’t give a damn.”

Mary Gay Scanlon was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore.
