Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on her social media account on October 6, 2025, addressing civic engagement, local celebrations, and calls for political cooperation.
In her first post of the day, Scanlon recounted a recent conversation with students at Swarthmore College: “I enjoyed speaking with Swarthmore College political science students about the need for all of us to be civically engaged as our country faces unique threats to constitutional norms and the rule of law. (They also asked when @HouseGOP will release the Epstein Files.)” (October 6, 2025).
Later that afternoon, she extended greetings to those observing a cultural event within her district: “Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to everyone celebrating in PA-05! I hope everyone gathering enjoys a bountiful harvest festival with their loved ones.” (October 6, 2025).
In another post that evening, Scanlon called for dialogue and solutions amid unspecified disputes: “If you hate to SEE it, then STOP IT! Come to the table and work out a solution.” (October 6, 2025).
Scanlon has represented Pennsylvania’s 5th District since succeeding Pat Meehan in 2018. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore. Her educational background includes an undergraduate degree from Colgate University and a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
