Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently highlighted her involvement in local recovery and environmental initiatives through a series of social media posts.
On July 31, 2025, Scanlon shared her role in securing support for flood recovery efforts following Hurricane Ida: “After the devastating flooding from Hurricane Ida, I helped secure recovery funding for the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art. @Rep_McBride, @RepHoulahan, and I were briefed on the Brandywine Flood Study they spearheaded and discussed how investments in FEMA and climate”.
The next day, August 1, 2025, she visited a new water treatment facility in Wilmington, Delaware. In her post she stated: “I visited Veolia’s new PFAS water treatment plant with @Rep_McBride and @RepHoulahan in Wilmington, Delaware. Everyone deserves access to clean and safe water, so I was glad to discuss Veolia’s efforts to mitigate forever chemicals in our water.”
Later that same day, Scanlon commented on former President Donald Trump’s impeachment record: “President Trump was impeached twice. He holds the record for impeachment of a single president: 2. He can’t erase history by removing an exhibit when his administration is assaulting the rule of law everyday.”
Scanlon has served as U.S. Representative since 2018 after succeeding Pat Meehan. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore at age 63. Her academic background includes a BA from Colgate University (1980) and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania (1984).
