Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who has represented Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2018, recently shared updates on her activities and community engagement through a series of social media posts.
On July 19, 2025, Scanlon expressed gratitude for constituents’ participation at a local event, stating, “Thank you to everyone who attended the town hall at Maris Grove Senior Living Facility! I’m grateful for the opportunity to share an update on DC activity and how I’m advocating for seniors and discuss other issues affecting our community.”
Later that day, she highlighted concerns about food insecurity linked to legislative changes: “When SNAP benefits are cut as a result of the Big, Ugly Bill, more and more people turn to our food banks. I took a tour of the new @sharefoodphilly warehouse in Ridley, whose services are all the more important right now.”
In another post from July 19, Scanlon acknowledged her interns’ contributions: “Our interns presented their projects on how they would tackle an issue impacting PA-05 through legislation. I am grateful for their hard work this summer and proud to empower our future leaders!”
Scanlon has been active in representing Pennsylvania’s 5th District since succeeding Pat Meehan in 2018. Born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently residing in Swarthmore, she holds degrees from Colgate University (BA) and the University of Pennsylvania (JD).
