Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who has represented Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2018, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing economic and law enforcement issues.

On March 9, 2026, Scanlon commented on the rising cost of living: “People can’t afford groceries. Unless you’re a billionaire, it’s not a ‘small price’ to pay.”

The following day, she criticized federal immigration authorities and Congressional Republicans: “ICE and CBP agents have terrorized American communities peacefully practicing their First Amendment rights, and Congressional Republicans are refusing to hold them accountable.” Later that day, she referenced ongoing policy actions with a brief post: “That plan in action:”

Scanlon was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore. She holds degrees from Colgate University (BA) and the University of Pennsylvania (JD).
