Mary Gay Scanlon highlights legislation on healthcare access and election funding

Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, who represents Pennsylvania’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used her social media platform to highlight legislative efforts addressing healthcare, election funding, and support for low-income families.

On April 3, 2026, Scanlon criticized private equity involvement in healthcare, stating: “Private equity is treating our hospitals like cash cows. I introduced the Take Back Our Hospitals Act because Wall Street’s greed shouldn’t determine whether Americans can access lifesaving healthcare.”

Later that day, she addressed concerns about financial influence in politics. Scanlon wrote: “AI and Crypto have recently started funneling money into our elections, but dark money has influenced our politics for far too long. I introduced the Democracy for All Amendment because people, not corporate interests, should decide elections.”

On April 4, 2026, Scanlon highlighted the importance of federal heating assistance programs: “Thousands of low income families – especially seniors – rely on LIHEAP to heat their homes and stay warm all winter.”

Scanlon has served in Congress since 2018 after replacing Pat Meehan as representative of Pennsylvania’s 5th district. She was born in Watertown, New York in 1959 and currently resides in Swarthmore. Scanlon holds a BA from Colgate University and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania.
