Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, currently representing Pennsylvania’s 5th district, frequently shares her thoughts on legislative and political developments through social media. Having replaced Pat Meehan in 2018, she continually engages with her constituents over pivotal matters affecting their lives.

On April 19, 2025, Scanlon criticized an alleged attempt by DOGE to undermine the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), suggesting this move was indicative of a broader issue. She conveyed her sentiments by stating, “DOGE attempt to shut down CFPB agency that has saved consumers BILLIONS shows continued lawlessness and incompetence of Musk team.”

Two days later, on April 21, 2025, Scanlon turned her attention to the SAVE Act, a piece of legislation moving through the U.S. Senate, which she perceives as problematic for voters. She warned Pennsylvanians about the implications of this act, noting that it would potentially complicate the voter registration process. Her message was evident as she outlined, “As the poorly drafted SAVE Act heads to the U.S. Senate, Pennsylvanians need to know that it will make it more difficult for eligible PA voters to register and vote.”

Later on the same day, Scanlon expressed gratitude to healthcare professionals, highlighting the important services offered by Planned Parenthood. After visiting the facility in Media, she acknowledged their contributions by stating, “Thank you to the dedicated staff at Planned Parenthood in Media who provide critical reproductive health care services for thousands of patients every year.”

Mary Gay Scanlon was born in Watertown, New York, in 1959. She graduated from Colgate University in 1980 and received her JD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984. She currently resides in Swarthmore.
