Borough of Swarthmore issued the following announcement on June 23.
The Borough of Swarthmore and the Independence Day Committee have made the difficult decision to cancel the annual Fourth of July celebrations due to COVID-19 health and distancing concerns. Impacted festivities include SRA’s bike race and horseshoe tournament, the community parade, Lions Club parade, Community Award Ceremony, and the Fire Company events.
The Committee is very grateful for the support it has received in the past – and in the future - from our community groups, the Silver Dollar Band, the police and fire departments, and everyone who has contributed in many ways.
Although we are unable to honor America’s birthday with our in-town party, I hope we can still celebrate all that we love about Swarthmore and our nation. In an effort to help with this, the fire company will be having a “fire truck parade” through town.
The parade will start at 10:00 a.m. and last about two hours. It will cover every street in town and make a lot of noise so run out and greet it as it approaches!
See you next year!
