BOROUGH OF LANDSDOWNE: Mayor issues Proclamation in Lansdowne designating July 26, 2020 as "Liberia Day"

Borough of Landsdowne issued the following announcement.

The Proclamation is the first of its kind celebrating the historic connection between Liberia and the United States and noting the community of Liberian immigrants in Southwest Philadelphia and Southeast Delaware County known as Little Monrovia. The ceremony was organized by Saadiq Mohammed and Joar Dahn, local activists in the Liberian Community.

On July 26th, Mayor Tony Campuzano, Council President Benjamin Hover, County Councilwoman Dr. Monica Taylor, and U. S. Representative Mary Gay Scanlon joined with leaders of the Liberian community to mark the first designation honoring the Liberian immigrant community in Southeast Pennsylvania and specifically in Lansdowne. Also present from Lansdowne Borough Council were Tangela James, Vice President Magda Byrne, and Sinoe Naji-Taylor. Upper Darby Councilman Hafiz Tunis also attended.

Representing the Liberian community were Abubakersaleke Sackor--President, Liberian Mandingo Association of Pennsylvania; Alasca Wisner, prominent leader in the Liberian community; Dahn Dennis, United Nimba Citizens Council; Mohammed Kronah, President Emeritus, United Liberian Association.
