Back-to-School Night on September 23 issued the following announcement on Sept. 10.

The Academy, which is located in CCCS’s Aston Campus will teach entrepreneurship, music production, computer science, and more

On Thursday, September 9th, local leaders including Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland and Chester Township Councilman Calvin Bernard were on hand to celebrate the opening of the Jahlil Beats Academy at Chester Community Charter School (CCCS), with the school’s CEO, Dr. David Clark, and the Grammy Award winning artist, Jahlil Beats. Hundreds of students attended several socially-distanced events to celebrate the opening as well.

CCCS is proudly partnering with Chester-born record producer and songwriter Jahlil Beats to implement Jahlil Beats Academy (JBA), a School focused on building scholars’ technological and business skillsets. With the goal of preparing scholars for the ever-changing technology of a 21st century society, The Jahlil Beats Academy will put an emphasis on computer science, entrepreneurship, and critical thinking, as well as other subjects like 3D printing and virtual reality.

Jahlil Beats Academy also features lessons on music production using studio equipment, sometimes taught by renowned guest instructors. With over 25 years of experience in the music industry, JBA is intent on training the next generation of music industry executives. Through extensive partnerships with key players across the music industry landscape, JBA scholars are able to work alongside some of the top executives, artists, and influencers.

“I just want to give these kids all the tools I know to succeed,” said Beats, who is currently signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation label. “Growing up in Chester, I didn’t have anyone to look at from a point of view of

success. I want to mold these scholars into legit business and cultural figures at a young age, giving them a career and pushing them to be forces in the entertainment field. I’m giving them all my resources.”

“This is a great opportunity for our scholars to have exposure to a new and exciting world. But what means the most to me about Jahlil Beats Academy is that it shows what can be born out of Chester, and what Chester’s success stories can reinvest into our next generation,” said Chester Community Charter School CEO Dr. David E. Clark, Jr.

Beats Academy will be housed in Chester Community Charter School’s middle school building in Aston, PA for at least the next five years. Classes will begin in Fall 2021 for CCCS scholars.

Chester Community Charter School (CCCS) was founded as an alternative public-school choice for families in and around the Chester-Upland School District. Operating nine buildings on four campuses, CCCS is dedicated to empowering students as learners through the development of a results-driven academic environment.

JBA is a music industry career pathways School that focuses on entrepreneurship and intellectual property monetization. Tapping into the global influence of Hip Hop culture, lifestyles and attitudes, JBA is able to meet young people at the point of their passions. Through the universal language of music, JBA is able to successfully facilitate conversations and experiences that expose students to a plethora of career pathways while helping them find or develop their voice, lane, and purpose.
