Chester Community CS issued the following announcement on May 4.
Dear Chester Community Charter School Parents:
Communities across the nation are struggling with a new challenge: our young people are being exposed to drugs that are packaged to look like candy. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bad influences out there trying to tell our children that these drugs are not dangerous. This is not the case.
So called “edibles” or “gummies,” which appear to be candy but actually contain marijuana or other harmful substances, have found their way to our community’s youth. It is essential that we work together to intercept and prevent the use of these substances. These drugs can have significant near- and long-term impact on our students’ development, growth and education. Possession of these drugs can also create criminal legal challenges that will derail their paths to success.
We strongly encourage you to speak to your children soon about the medical, academic and legal consequences of taking or possessing any type of illegal drugs. Furthermore, we want to remind you of CCCS’s zero tolerance policy for drugs. This is a path to expulsion.
Some of the “edibles” come in packages that resemble candy such as Starburst, Skittles, or Trolli. Please examine all gummy and taffies brought to your homes and remind your scholars not to accept or share loose candy.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Dr. David E. Clark, Jr
CEO, Chester Community Charter School
