A Q&A with 8th Grader Sajdah King, Undecided
Class of 2022 Time Capsule
Describe yourself in three words:
Outgoing, strong-willed, efficient.
When you’re not at school, what activities or hobbies do you enjoy?
I enjoy going to the gym. I am a gym rat kind of. I go to the gym every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. I like to do the machines. I do swimming on Mondays. For the rest of the week, I lift weights with my Mom. Like bench presses and stuff. And push ups, sit ups, machinery, a little bit of everything. My dad and I both have a passion for fitness.
I am also a gymnast. But I recently stopped. I usually excel on floor. My floor routines were pretty long and difficult to do often but I was really good at it. And I never gave up. So I enjoyed that a lot. The worst thing for me is probably the vault -- it was really hard for me.
I also enjoy cooking with my Mom. Our favorite thing to cook is either apple pie or apple crisp. We also make seafood bisque a lot for our family. Cooking together really builds a strong bond.
Who is your favorite musical artist, band? What is your current favorite song?
I have two actually. First, I would say my favorite artists are G. Herbo and the other is Beyoncé because the only thing by G. Herbo I like is his music. For Beyonce, overall she is a really good person and her music is really touching and calm and smooth. I just like the way she carries herself. My favorite song is “Tame Romance” by Lil Skies.
What is your favorite television series or movie?
My favorite movie has to be Colombiana. It’s fiction but it’s like they made it seem like a real story. And she’s kind of like a superhero in her own way and she’s a really strong woman and she’s strong-willed like I think of myself. My favorite show is The Loud House on Nickelodeon.
What is your current favorite book?
My favorite book is Ghostboys by Jewell Parker Rhodes. It’s about a boy who was killed by a police officer because he was wrongfully accused….he had a toy gun and it was mistaken for a real gun. He becomes a ghost and sees everything. He comes across the policeman's daughter. He sees they are the same age and no one would do the same to his daughter.
The MPFS Experience
What grade did you start at MPFS?
Fifth grade
Do you have a favorite MPFS memory, event, or tradition?
In fifth grade, we walked into town and got Jaco Taco and our principal came with us. At the time our principal was T. Earl. He was really nice. My 5th grade teacher was also really nice. Her name was T. Devon.
What interests have been sparked during your time at MPFS?
I’ve gotten interested in soccer, which I tried before I came here and I hated it, but now I actually like it. I was on the team and I played soccer outside of school with my sister who’s also on the team.
What do you think you’ll miss the most about MPFS?
Having classes with all the same people.
High School & Beyond
Where are you going to high school?
Abington & Friends Central, waitlist
Are you looking forward to trying any new activities, sports, or subjects in high school?
I want to go for the soccer team. Maybe an upper level math class because I like math. I like algebra. It really makes you think outside the box. Algebra makes you think harder.
Do you have an idea of what you’d like to study in college or what you might want to be when you grow up?
I have two opposite options. For one I would want to go to school for medicine, math, and science. The other option is, there’s this school in New York called The New School and it’s for kids who like creative stuff and arts. I would actually like to model clothes for people. Or hairstyles and makeup. Anything relating to the arts. My sister is the real reason I have a drive to go there. She really wanted to go to that school but she ended up going to school for medicine. It’s the traditional thing to do in my family. I don’t know it’s just something I might want to do for her.
What advice do you have for next year’s middle school students?
Don't procrastinate.
Anything you want your family, friends, or teachers to know about you or your MPFS experience?
I feel like the smaller environment made a huge difference in my personality and, also I feel like I’m ready for a bigger environment. But the smaller environment did help with my anxiety. Learning wise, if I wasn’t caught up on something or if I couldn’t understand the concept, I knew there was always going to be a teacher that wasn’t dealing with four different other things. I knew I was always going to get help one way or another.
