In our kindergarten class, students created beautiful silk-painted pillows to surprise families before the holidays. The goal of the pillow project is to go through a step-by-step artistic process (under the careful eye of internationally recognized textile artist, our own T. Emily!) After painting silk with watery acrylic paints - and enjoying watching the colors flow and blend, each kindergarten child helped sew the pillow inside out on the machine by pushing the foot pedal. They then stuffed & help to sew the pillows closed. Finally, students created their own unique wrapping paper and helped wrap the pillow before taking it home for Winter Break. These skills will help young students learn how to follow instructions, explore new "low-tech" skills like sewing with a sewing machine & practicing the persistence and follow-through needed for a hands-on project! #mpfsquakered #thisisquakered #artinschools #steameducation #arteducation #phillyart #delcoart #delcoartists
