Scanlon criticizes consumer protection rollback amid rising costs

Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, representing Pennsylvania's 5th district since 2018, recently shared her views on social media regarding various political issues. Born in Watertown, New York, and currently residing in Swarthmore, Scanlon has a background in law with degrees from Colgate University and the University of Pennsylvania.

On February 10, 2025, Scanlon expressed enthusiasm for the Philadelphia Eagles with a succinct "EAGLES!!!" post. This tweet highlights her support for the local sports team.

Later that day, she criticized actions by prominent figures including Donald Trump and Elon Musk. In a tweet, she stated: "Trump, Musk & Vought (author of Project 2025) just shut down the consumer protection agency that saved American consumers more than $21 billion. But won't do anything to bring down grocery prices. #CFPB."

Continuing her critique of political priorities, Scanlon noted in another post: "House Republicans promised that they would focus on lowering the cost of living. But more than a month into the year, they have not done a single thing to bring down prices." She further questioned their actions by stating: "What are they doing instead? Cheering on Elon Musk as he takes away critical consumer protections…"
