RADNOR TOWNSHIP: A Message from Superintendent of Police Christopher B. Flanagan: Holiday Safety for Radnor Township

Announce

Radnor Township issued the following announcement.

The holiday season is not only a time for giving, it’s also a time for taking. Radnor Township Superintendent of Police Christopher B. Flanagan reminds Radnor Township that this time of year presents thieves with some attractive potential targets.

Tips for Radnor residents during the holiday season:

  • Lock up homes before leaving the house or going to bed, switch on lights if you plan to be out late and avoid signaling expensive purchases by leaving boxes outside.
  • Keep an eye out for each other’s property and report suspicious people or vehicles in the area to police, with descriptions or license plate numbers if possible.
  • Avoid leaving gifts, cash and jewelry where they can be seen and make sure alarm systems are in operation.
  • Those travelling for the festive season should advise neighbors of their absence, have friends check their properties and make sure their mailbox is emptied or register for the Radnor Township Vacant Home program.
  • Residents, please click here for a safety message from Superintendent Flanagan.
In addition, holiday shoppers should avoid carrying large sums in cash and be careful when using ATMs. Shoppers should also keep their bags close and drivers should park in well-lit areas and make sure shopping is stored out of sight. Please considering having keys in hand when returning to vehicles and travel with another person whenever possible.

Business owner’s guideline to keep the festive season crime-free:

  • More than one member of staff should always be present when premises are due to be opened and closed.
  • Make regular bank deposits to avoid holding large sums of money in their stores and CCTV and alarm systems should be checked.
  • Identification should be requested for card transactions, and card information should be kept confidential. Staff should also be vigilant over anyone attempting to pay for goods with counterfeit currency.
  • Potential problems should be reported to 911.
  • Business owners, please click here for a safety message from Superintendent Flanagan.
