We are pleased to share that your local education agencies (Bucks IU 22, Montgomery County IU 23, Chester County IU 24, Delaware County IU 25) and your PBS affiliate (WHYY) has been awarded a 2020-21 Offline Partnership Grant to accelerate learning and professional development in Continuity of Education in the amount of $85,000. The Initiative will utilize a collaborative approach to Continuity of Education through the development of “Grab and Go Bags”. The grant period will run from September through December with grant implementation during October and November. In alignment with the PDE Blueprint for Reentry, Offline Solutions address the need to connect with our students that have limited or inconsistent access to virtual learning, as that relates to four domains of Teaching and Learning, Equity and Access, Student Wellness, and Safety. In putting forth best efforts to ensure access to a continuity of education programming, we recognize the following:
- Throughout the Commonwealth, there are students/families that do not have access to internet and/or home devices;
- All learners deserve equitable access to Continuity of Education (CoE) during the pandemic and subsequent school disruptions during the 2020-2021 school year;
- All learners deserve equitable access to CoE that includes supports/services to address their physical/mental health/wellness and safety.
The DCIU Grant
DCIU Grab and Go Project: Engineering is Elementary
In Delaware County, the "Southeast PA Grab and Go Project" program will provide K-6 students enrolled in the New Pathways program with offline materials that support and extend the face-to-face instruction taking place. The DCIU and WHYY partnership will bring content aligned resources to a DCIU program serving area students from across the county. Teachers in the program will receive:
- grade level appropriate engineering materials from the Museum of Science in Boston's Engineering is Elementary
- professional development in high quality engineering instruction, and
- instructional coaching to support program implementation.
- a "Try It!" kit aligned to classroom instruction featuring mini-design challenges with individual student materials
- the accompanying EiE unit culturally responsive storybook
- curated resources guides aligned to PBS Learning Media and the WHYY broadcast schedule
digital TV antennas to connect to WHYY over the air , and
- foldscope paper microscopes
