Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon has been active on social media, expressing her views on a series of significant issues. Representing Pennsylvania's 5th district since 2018, she succeeded Pat Meehan and has been a vocal presence on various topics.
On April 14, 2025, Scanlon posted her gratitude regarding the safety of a public official, stating, "I am so grateful that @GovernorShapiro and his family are safe. This cowardly act of violence must be universally condemned. I echo Governor Shapiro’s thanks to our first responders for their quick action." She emphasized the importance of condemning violence and praised the quick response of first responders.
The following day, on April 15, Scanlon commented on a legal decision, detailing that "The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the Trump Administration illegally deported a Maryland man and has ordered that the government facilitate his release and ensure that he receives due process. A White House acting in good faith would exert every effort to comply, not." This highlights her expectation for the current administration to act in good faith concerning due process.
Later that day, she addressed concerns regarding Social Security, asserting that "This administration's attacks on Social Security are creating longer wait times, website and phone system failures, and opportunities for fraud against recipients. Social Security is a promise to Americans that cannot be broken – and I'm doing everything possible to protect it." Scanlon indicated ongoing problems faced by recipients and expressed her commitment to protecting Social Security.
Mary Gay Scanlon has represented Pennsylvania’s 5th District since 2018, taking over from Pat Meehan.
